 INTRODUCTION

The International Institute for ICT Journalism (Penplusbytes) www.penplusbytes.net is a leading training institute for developing practicing African journalists on cutting edge ICT skills and policy related issues. In line with our mission of empowering the media through ICTs we are most delighted to be partnering with Highway Africa in this year conference to deliver a short course on:

THEORY OF VISUAL COMMUNICATION FOR NEWSPAPER/MAGAZINE DESIGN ENVIRONMENTS.

This course focuses on communication design and introduces participants to visual theory, design as a profession, working on publications in a newsroom and designing for different audiences. This short course engages already existing knowledge about what constitutes good newspaper/magazine design and will ask you to critique those ‘facts’ as assumptions, thereby shifting your own definitions.

We are grateful to Osiwa for providing the grant to make this training possible.
